A: There are many different names society calls a home like Bunk & Bloom: Independent living home, boarding house, rooming house, and short-term rental, to name a few. We are a shared living program. We are a housing program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that not only includes a bedroom, but additional features like social service referrals, gardening, cable TV, office space, an exercise room, wifi, and house activities like game nights, holiday celebrations, and more.
A: Bunk & Bloom is a transitional housing program. If accepted into our program, you become a member and not a tenant. There is no lease, and members are not residents of the property. Upon being accepted, you complete member paperwork and abide by the program rules. If rules are broken, you will be disenrolled from the program and must leave the property. Members pay a monthly program fee and do not pay rent. The program fee covers your daily bedroom expense and all included amenities. Your program fee can be paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. All payments are due at the start of the week or month, based on what is selected at the start of the program. A non-refundable start-up fee is due when you move in, along with your full weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly program fee payment. Members do not receive mail at the program location. A separate address is provided for member mail. Mail is picked up and distributed throughout the week.
A: No, we do not provide transportation or meals for members. As a shared living home, members are required to be fully independent and take care of their own needs. We do have preferred transportation providers available upon request. Staff can also assist members with setting up their phones with rideshare and grocery delivery apps. We have a fully-equipped kitchen for members to prepare their meals, along with storage space for grocery items.
A: We have both shared and single room options available.
A: Members are not allowed to bring their furniture to Bunk & Bloom, as we are a fully furnished home. Storage is available for residents' food in the kitchen, closet space, dressers, and shelving space in the basement. Members are only allowed to bring up to four (4) suitcases or bags of clothing due to space. If a member needs additional storage space, we recommend renting from the local storage facility just a few blocks away.
A: Unfortunately, we do not accept children at this time. All residents must be 50 years or older.
A: Couples may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. If accepted, the monthly program fee is 1.5x the standard program rate for one room.
A: Unfortunately, we do not accept pets at this time.
A: We observe "quiet hours" from 1:00 a.m.- 5:00 a.m. daily. This means if members leave the home after 1:00 a.m., they are not allowed back into the house until 5:00 a.m. This is not intended to restrict our members, but to ensure we respect our neighbors, fellow members, and maintain the peace of the neighborhood.
A: Members can stay as long as they want, as long as they follow our community guidelines and program rules. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and month-to-month options. Daily stays are also available if we have room availability.
A: Only approved visitors are allowed; however, to respect the privacy of all members, approved visitors are only allowed in designated areas of the home and within dedicated timeframes.
